    J. P. Keaton, who went to Cashmere several days ago, has secured contract for picking apples of three orchards. He expects to secure pickers from Snohomish and believes that it will take about 40 days to harvest the crop. He reports a fairly good crop of apples in the valley."

1921-8-14 Avarill.

1921-8-28 Avarill. Batted 8th. "SNOHOMISH, Aug. 29.-The Snohomish baseball nine was defeated at Granite Falls yesterday by a score of 7 to 4. Poor playing at critical moments, poor grounds, and alleged poor umpiring were responsible. A large crowd from Snohomish attended the game.
"Umpires are human and are liable to make mistakes, but it is a very serious one to call a man out on two strikes, which Mr. Turner admitted he did," says E. C. Stevens, scorekeeper. "There is nothing in the rules that requires the umpire to notify the players that a runner left the base before the ball was caught and to throw the ball to that base, which Mr. Turner admitted he did. There are several other decisions which were against Snohomish, but the foregoing were enough to lose any game.""

1922-4-14 Snohomish. "According to information received from the Playgrounds Association, plans are forging ahead for another winning baseball team. The rainy weather is holding back the association's plans to some extent. However, they hope to see action within a short time.
"A few days of good weather, is all we need," said R. E. Main, publicity agent for the association. As soon as the weather permits, the finishing touches will be added to the baseball diamond, after which practice will start in earnest. It is probable that more baseball uniforms will be purchased in order to allow more men to compete for team positions. All efforts will be made to muster and develop the best baseball material in the community.
Letters requesting games have been circulated among the neighboring towns, but no definite schedule has been completed, according to officials,
As five members of last season's team are out of town, it is evident that new players will be needed. Among last year's players who will form the nucleus for the new team are Averill, R. Tronsrud, I. Tronsrud Knapp and Holcomb. Zaepfel and Myer are also expected to turn out.
Season tickets are on sale and may be secured from R. E. Main, Herb Halterman or Frank Bowen, all members of the Playgrounds Association."

1922-7-02 With a man on third, Averill bunted down the third base line - the runner scored and Averill was safe.
"The Snohomish players claimed that it was not over confidence that allowed the Barbers to make six runs in the ninth, but they found out that Joe Getchell, pioneer fan, was not at the game and they lost nerve."
1922-7-03 "In the eighth Snohomish marred its almost perfect record for sportsmanship by the whole infield gathering around the umpires and protesting a decision at first. Sultan quickly took advantage and two men advanced each a base, afterward scoring."
1922-7-04 Old Timers' v. town team game.
1922-7-09 "Averill in center made the star catch, getting one after a hard run to deep center that would have been a three bagger."
1922-7-12 Another game v. Monroe reformatory
" 'Dutch' Altman umpired a good game, the only kick being by the visitors [Reformatory] when Averill, batting right handed, had two strikes called on him, then stepped across the plate to bat left handed, they claiming that he had no right to, but, as he struck out, nothing more was said."
"Averill at third fielded his position in splendid shape."
1922-7-16 Averill made a "difficult catch."
1922-7-23 Knapp was "prevented from [catching] a long fly by some passing pedestrians who were in the way." J. Otterson "pitched like a leaguer" and hit a grand slam.

"Keaton was dumping coal at the high school when the crank which lifts the load slipped a cog, whirling around and striking him on the jaw. He was taken to a local physician."
1922-7-30 "Averill made the longest hit of the day, to deep right, the ball landing in the middle of Second street." Also doubled but was called out for not touching first.
1922-8-06 "In the fifth. "Iron Man' Jimmie Dixon, who had been imported [by Granite Falls] for the purpose of humiliating Snohomish, believe the local fans, relieved Hasketh in the box. He walked into the diamond with an air of overconfidence begotten with a long string of victories with the Lowell Paper mill nine and other teams. But, alas for Jimmie, his ambition and aims as regards being mentioned in baseball history faded when the local boys got two singles and a double off his delivery. He quit in disgust and in turn was relieved by Toland, who finished the game. Jimmie had lasted a little more than one inning."
1922-8-13 No box.
1922-8-20 "Rooting by the followers of both clubs enlivened the game."
1922-8-27 "There will be games both Sunday and Monday coming, announces the managers of the local team."
1922-9-01 Last two home games of season on Sunday and Monday.
1922-9-03 "one of the best [games] seen here this season." 3-2.
"A decision in the third inning by Cobb, against Snohomish seemed to take the "pep" out of the Snohomish players for awhile, but they soon pulled themselves together and played real baseball.. In the play Averill hit and got to third on Knapp's double and in trying to score the play was made to the plate. Syphers got the ball in plenty of time, but as Averil slid in he dropped it and Cobb called Averill out. The Snohomish players made a vigorous protest but Cobb stuck to his decision and then made a bluff of quitting the game, but allowed himself to be persuaded to finish. "
"in the sixth Averill got the three put outs, one of which was over his heard but by turning and running with the ball and judging it perfectly he got under it and cut off what should have been at least a three base hit."
1922-9-04 2-1. 11 innings. Last of series of five games with Granite Falls - Snohomish won three.
"Nothing more doing on either side [after the sixth inning] till Snohomish came to bat in the last half of the eleventh inning. I. Tronsrud was first up and Nolan promptly disposed of him. Hagis to Bosford. Then came Averil. Nolan began feeding him the same kind on which he had struck him before, over the outer corner of the plate.
With the fans all on their feet yelling for a home run. Averill struck viciously at the first ball and knocked a long foul. He caught the next one squarely on the nose, and it sailed high over the center field and the farther it went the higher it seemed to go, and long before it was returned, Averill had completed the circuit and the game was over. Averill's teammates rushed out and carried him from the field on their shoulders, and the fans showered him with silver. The Granite bunch showed themselves to be true sports, Nolan being the first to congratulate him: and the Granite fans voluntarily contributing liberally to the donation."
Snohomish (1922-9-08) " 'The best game ever played on the local diamond' is the unanimous verdict of every loyal follower of baseball, when speaking of the base ball game played on Labor Day..."
"But it was the winning run that made the game more than spectacular. Averill, local outfielder, came to bat with two out in the last half of the eleventh, and after looking over the first two, lifted the next one over into Second street for a home run. Fans swarmed into the field and picked Averill up and carried him around the diamond on their shoulders, voicing their appreciation of the mighty clout by shouts that could be heard on Avenue D."
"The attendance was good at both games, between six and seven hundred seeing the games. Granite Falls was well represented."

1923-7-29 Snohomish beat Granite Falls 8-3 to win third game of best-of-three series.
"Two great catches of foul flys were made in the fourth. Lepper went into the crowd to the right of first base and pulled down a bad one from the bat of Lynch, and in the eighth Ralph Tronsrud went over the pile of bats in front of Granite's dugout and got a bad one that Christy had hit.
In the seventh Christy made one of the greatest catches ever seen on the local diamond. It was a long fly from I. Tronsrud's bat. Christy went after it on the dead run, speared it with one hand, went to the ground, but came up witht the ball. In the fifth Averill made a fine catch of a long fly by Bassford. In the seventh Cook, who had 'replaced Kingburg behind the bat made a fluke home run. the ball going under an automobile and by the time the fielder had crawled under and retrieved it he had crossed the plate. The informative caller was Pete Senuty, who caught for Bellingham at the time. "We'd get paid, but not very much. We weren't drawing too much and we'd get a percentage. The catcher and the pitcher would get more than the manager..."
""I worked for the county," [Averill] said. "Started out painting a bridge in Ferndale. Ended up in Lynden. We'd cut brush along the highway."
Averill said he came to Bellingham because Bellingham had a better ballclub. "I'd go anywhere I thought I'd improve myself. Tealy Raymond was a good manager. It was Tealy who signed me for San Francisco."

He expects to again play the position of short stop on the college nine this year. Zaepfel reports that Snohomish and Bellingham are two towns of the state that especially send good representations of students each year to the college, who make good and that it is a usual thing with the student body to expect at least one Snohomish man to be on each athletic team."
