1937-12-10 B. "Rural Oahu Japanese Senior League."
"WAIPAHU, Dec. 8. The Rural Oahu Japanese Senior baseball league decided to run a shorter season in 1938 at a special meeting held Sunday evening at the Suikyoro teahouse in Waiawa.
By a majority vote of 8 to 1, the representatives agreed to alter the original plan of playing two series and the winners of the first and second series play off for the championship.
The new decision calls for a two round campaign but, in the second half of the season, three tail ending teams will be eliminated from the race, leaving six outfits to continue the flag fight.
Discounting the possibilities of postponed games this season, which will open on January 9, will come to a close by April 10 under the new plan. Whereas in the old system the closing date would have dragged to May 29.
By cutting short the season, many rural players would have the opportunity of playing in the Hawaii Senior league. Last season some of the boys were delayed in joining the Asahis due to a long schedule.
The late Asahi products from the country eircuit included Lawrence (Peanut) Kunihisa and Flash Kamisugi of Wahiawa, Charles Taketa and Yoshio Koike of Waialua, Sam Aoki, Toshio (Bozo) Sasaki and Sakae Higuchi of Pearl City and Lefty Ohira of Aiea."
