In Puerto Rico, in the 1941-1942 season, Joshua Gibson was the leader in the following departments: Batting, with .480 and Home Runs, with 13. There, he played on the same team, the Cangrejeros de Santurce , with Venezuelan Vidal López, being an eyewitness to that spectacular performance. Vidal López was the third best pitcher in effectiveness with 2.83, tied with Luis Cabrera, behind Juan Guilbe (2.81) and Ray Brown (1.82), with 104 strikeouts; on offense, the "Boy from Windward" hit for an average of .327 at bat, hit 17 doubles, 6 home runs, scored 25 runs and drove in 29, in 150 at bats.
