1913-6-08 Hanford Morning Journal. Record-breaking crowd of 1500. Standings, local box, foreign lines.
"Extending far out toward the left field fence, and filling nearly all of the space between the gate and the right field fence there were automobiles packed closely together, from the grounds clear around. Second street both sides of the streets were lined with machines, there being fully 200 autos at the game. In one corner of the grand stand the Bakersfield band dispensed short snatches of lively music whenever the inspiration came over them-and they were constantly inspired, so it seemed. In another quarter the tin pan and cowbell brigade did justice to their implements of war and injustice to their nearest neighbors. Everybody was yelling, shouting, waving yes, blamed near dying. Those of Hanford came the nearest to dying and every one of the Bakersfield delegation of 250 should have been put in a straight jacket and guarded by six policemen each. Now add to this the umpire's shouting - there were two of 'em- Bill Theile and Arthur Patnott - and what all of the other players had to say and how do you expect us to hear what Tom Hasty said?"
