Connecticut leagues

Connecticut State League (D)

1914-3-28 Holyoke. Dan O'Neill, who owned many different clubs in the CTSL, visited New Haven yesterday - "Dan told of some of the old-time meetings of the directors when they would sit in trunks in the express offices at the different railroad stations and transact their business. He referred to the meeting at the time Pitcher Tom Tuckey, then with New Haven, was fined for pitching independent ball, and of the hard fought battle put up at the directors' meeting over this matter. This was the time Bridgeport won the pennant from New Haven over the technicality of Tuckey being suspended and some games he won being thrown out."
Good memories of CTSL  days. O'Neill thinks the good days are gone - current players just in it for the money.

1936-1-03 William (Wee Willie) Aspinall obit. "When he pitched his greatest game against Willimantic in 1904, a special train, packed with 12 cars of enthusiastic followers, made the trip to root him to victory. He lost, however, after 13 innings, 1-0. But he allowed only 2 hits and struck out 26 men.
Aspinall was 58 years old when he died late yesterday of a heart attack.
His first semi-pro games were with Norwich in the old Connecticut State League in 1903. He had speed and curves galore and for a time, his brother Clarence was the only catcher who could hold the ball.
