1926-6-01 "Boots Nekola, the Evander twirler, is just about the finest school- boy that has ever ascended the mound for a New York team. That statement goes without any qualifications, and in full knowledge of the fact that Waite Hoyt once twirled for Erasmus Hall.
It is superfluous to go into Nekola's record at this juncture. Even the most provincial of Brooklyn schoolboys who rarely cross the bridge have heard of Nekola's feats and given them the proper wonder and respect.
The Tech batting power will have to be at high tide to sweep out Nekola from the firm turf of victory. But unlike Canute, Nekola has the power of commanding tides, at least schoolboy batting tides.
1929-6-15 Pic of Holy Cross pitchers, including Nekola. Nekola was the ace - in 11 games (9 full and 2 partial), he struck out 114, walked 22, and gave up 12 runs and 52 hits. Holy Cross has a 24-1 record vs. college teams, and Nekola was undefeated.
Nekola signs with Yankees. Nekola says he was victim of circumstances - unhappy with how Yankees handled case. (Unclear what they did.)
